Rubik's Clock is one of the most unique official WCA speedcubing events, featuring a flat, circular puzzle with 18 independent clock dials (9 on each side). Unlike all other WCA puzzles, Rubik's Clock is solved by rotating its 4 corner pins and 4 face wheels to set all 18 dials pointing to the 12 o'clock position simultaneously. JrTimer generates official WCA Clock scrambles using the standard pin-based notation system.
The Clock has two sides (front and back), each containing 9 dial positions arranged in a 3x3 grid. The 4 corner pins (Up-Left, Up-Right, Down-Left, Down-Right) control which dials move when the face wheels are rotated. The pin configuration determines which of the 9 dials on each face rotate together when a wheel is turned. Understanding which pins affect which dials is the foundation of efficient Clock solving.
The Rubik's Clock single world record is 2.54 seconds by Uma Kanthan (USA), and the average world record is 3.28 seconds, also held by Uma Kanthan. Clock records have been broken frequently as optimized scramble-specific algorithm sequences become more refined. Common milestones: sub-30 seconds (beginner), sub-15 seconds, sub-8 seconds, and sub-5 seconds for competitive solving.
WCA Clock scrambles use a notation specifying pin states and rotation amounts for each face wheel. The scramble format includes moves like "UR5+" (Up-Right wheel rotated 5 clicks clockwise with certain pins up) and "All3+" (all dials rotated 3 clicks clockwise). JrTimer displays and applies these scrambles correctly so your puzzle matches the expected scrambled state.
