The 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube, invented by Ernő Rubik in 1974, is the most iconic puzzle in speedcubing and the flagship event of World Cube Association (WCA) competitions worldwide. JrTimer provides an official WCA-compliant 3x3 timer with real-time random-state scramble generation, allowing you to train under authentic competition conditions from anywhere.
Press Space to start your WCA inspection (up to 15 seconds), hold Space to arm the timer, release to begin timing your solve, then press any key to stop. Your Ao5, Ao12, Ao50, Ao100, and session mean are automatically tracked in the statistics panel.
CFOP (developed by Jessica Fridrich) is used by the vast majority of sub-20 second speedcubers. It breaks the solve into four distinct steps:
The Roux method (by Gilles Roux) is a block-building approach favored for its low move count and heavy use of M-slice moves. Roux solvers build two 1x2x3 blocks on opposite sides of the cube, orient the corners of the top layer (CMLL), and finish with an intuitive last-six-edges (LSE) step.
Other notable methods include ZZ (EO-Line first, then block-building with zero cube rotations), Petrus (block-building with EO correction), and SSC for speedsolvers who prefer non-CFOP approaches.
The 3x3x3 single world record is 3.13 seconds by Max Park (USA), set at Pride in Long Beach 2023. The official average world record is 4.09 seconds, also held by Max Park. Common training milestones for speedcubers are sub-2 minutes (beginner), sub-1 minute, sub-30 seconds, sub-20 seconds, and the coveted sub-10 seconds.
